Common Questions About Smile Makeovers

Do you have to grind my natural teeth down to tiny stubs?
This is the number one fear I hear from patients, usually after they've seen horror stories of aggressive "shark teeth" drilling from cheap overseas clinics. My answer is a resounding no.
As a cosmetic dentist in North Bethesda, my philosophy is "minimally invasive." For high-quality porcelain veneers, I only remove a thin layer of enamel so the veneer sits flush and looks entirely natural. In some cases, depending on your alignment, we can even design no-prep veneers where your natural tooth isn't drilled at all.
How many visits does a custom smile makeover take?
Getting your dream smile is surprisingly efficient. Once we complete your initial consultation and agree on the digital design, the actual process usually takes just two main visits.
During the first visit, I gently prepare your teeth and place your beautiful temporary veneers (your "test drive"). About two weeks later, you return to our Potomac Dental and Implant Center office, and I will permanently bond your final, custom-crafted porcelain veneers. You walk out that same day with your new, radiant smile.
Will I be in pain, and how long is the recovery?
Your comfort is my absolute priority. Because we use conservative preparation techniques, there is very little trauma to the tooth. We ensure you are completely numb and comfortable during the preparation visit.
As for recovery, there is no "downtime." You can go right back to work or your normal daily activities. You might experience some mild cold sensitivity for a few days while wearing your temporaries or right after the final veneers are placed, but this fades quickly.
What happens if my veneer chips or breaks? Is there a warranty?
This is the exact reason why getting your veneers done locally is so important. High-quality porcelain or Zirconia is incredibly strong, but just like natural teeth, accidents can happen if you bite down on ice or hard candy.
If you ever chip or damage a veneer, you don't have to panic or book an international flight. You simply call our office. I stand by my craftsmanship. We will evaluate the tooth and either quickly polish a minor chip or replace the veneer to make your smile perfect again. We offer continuous, long-term support for all of our cosmetic dentistry patients.
How long do porcelain veneers actually last?
When crafted with premium materials and bonded correctly, porcelain veneers are a long-term investment. On average, they last 10 to 15 years, and often much longer with excellent oral hygiene and regular professional cleanings at our office.
Unlike natural teeth, porcelain is highly resistant to stains from coffee, tea, and wine, meaning your smile makeover will stay bright and beautiful for over a decade.
How much does it cost to get full mouth veneers?
